To Save Our Democracy, Biden Must Step Aside as the Dems’ Nominee
In his cognitive impairment — which impairment became immediately apparent as last night’s Biden-Trump debate got underway — Joe Biden has been absolutely correct about one thing all along: Donald Trump poses an existential threat to our American democracy.
But, sadly: In his cognitive impairment — his inability to track a question, to answer it, in other words his sheer incoherence — Joe Biden showed himself not to be the defender our democracy needs at this moment of grave peril.
But, also sadly: It is this very cognitive impairment that may prevent Mr. Biden from being able to see that he must step aside as the Democrats’ nominee.
Thus, it will take others around him, many profiles in courage, to step in and help him — force him? — to see the light: his family, his advisosrs, fellow Democrats whom he trusts.
For, to put it in plainest terms possible: Donald Trump, if he wins in November, plans to destroy our democracy and install a dictatorship: one man rule. One man rule in place of rule by the many.
So please, let’s not waste time hearing about Mr. Biden’s famous ambition and stubbornness, much as we Democrats admire him for it. Or how Democrats show no loyalty to their own. Or how Republicans have all lined up behind an amoral man with 34 felony counts against him (and this in just one lawsuit) and who incited the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. For the Republicans have already shown themselves to be anti-democratic and in it only for the power.
Let’s not compound one tragedy — Mr. Biden’s personal one — with the end of American Democracy.
